New Climate Ready Business guide published

Published today at an event at the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation, Adaptation Scotland’s new Climate Ready Business guide includes practical examples of steps that businesses can take to increase resilience and adapt to the impacts of climate change. The guide has been developed in partnership with Scottish Enterprise, Visit Scotland and the 2020 Climate Group and includes case studies from large and small companies.

Welcoming the guide Dame Susan Rice, Chair of Scotland’s 2020 Climate Group said, ‘climate change is a significant challenge that needs to be built in to business planning today. Businesses are already taking action and reaping the benefits including cost savings, enhanced reputation and increased investor confidence. This new guide will help more businesses identify opportunities as well as climate risks and take early action to adapt’

Roseanna Cunningham, Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform also welcomed the guide saying “The impacts of climate change will undoubtedly affect businesses in Scotland. We are committed to working with business to increase their understanding of impacts and want to ensure that practical advice is available to help businesses adapt. The new guide provides that important practical advice and also includes good examples of adaptation in action, so that businesses can be aware of both the risks and opportunities of climate change.”

Janie Neumann, VistScotland’s Industry Development Manager for Sustainability was part of the expert group that developed the guide and said “Weather, especially extreme weather, can have a serious impact on businesses and planning ahead rather than responding reactively is a more cost effective way to manage risks and adapt. VisitScotland is encouraging tourism industry partners to consider the potential threats and opportunities of climate change, and how to increase their resilience. Adaptation Scotland’s new business guide is an essential tool in taking action."
